Feel free to test out the hyperlinks. Be warned that If you click on Blog it will just take you back here. On the real thing it will open the blog in a separate tab. For you facebook fans out there you can click on the portfolio pieces to get to the next piece, or you can use the arrows at the bottom to get to the next piece. The pieces are almost all from this term or else pieces that were handy for some other reason. Hopefully it's pretty self explanatory. Let me know if it's not.

Mouse Trail Illustration

Here is my nine minute first attempt at a mouse trail illustration.

I thought it looked pretty good until I saw it enlarged.

I worked on homework from 7:13 this morning till 10:18 this evening (with a couple short breaks to eat and such). Above is the path that my mouse took during those 15 hours. Black circles represent places where the mouse stopped. I use dual monitors which is the reason it is so wide. I haven't taken the time to analyze it but it would be interesting to see what kinds of patterns there might be in it.

Who is Micah Patrick?

I was looking through old photos on my computer and found this one of my sisters and I. Here is the cropped version of just me. It's hard to believe that was once me. I'm still that same kid with the same inability to flex convincingly (I wish I still had that hat).

People have been asking me about the whole Micah Patrick thing and I thought I'd take this opportunity to address the issue in writing. I'm still Micah Brown. I am proud to bear that name. Patrick is just my middle name. I've decided to use Micah Patrick as my professional (graphic design) name. No need to call me Micah Patrick, Micah will do fine. I'm not planning to make any legal changes to my name.

There are a number of reasons why I have decided to do this. First of all Micah Patrick is a more unique and dynamic name. A first name as a last name just sounds cool to me. I have nothing against my family but Brown is the fourth most common name in the country. Micah Brown specifically is a very common name. There are 263 Micah Browns on myspace and 357 on facebook. There are a number of athletes with the name Micah Brown, a musician, a photographer and even print/ web designer among others. Micah Patrick on the other hand is more unique and the domain was available.

Promo

This is part of a promo piece I'm working on for my pro prac class. It's a small poster with info graphics about myself. The information is a combination of trivial facts about myself for fun and graphic design facts to promote myself. There will also be a graphic with all my contact information. Here is one of six columns.

The first one seen here is vegetable by % likes and % dislikes.
The second is relative software proficiency.
The third is my typing speed for English and for filler text.
I'm much faster at filler text.

Website Look Update

This is what my website is going to look like. Simplicity of navigation was very important to me. You will be able to get to any page in the site with one click from the home page (or from any other page for that matter). Keep in mind this site is my digital portfolio, it doesn't replace this blog, therefore it will only have a limited number of pieces on it.

This is the home/ portfolio page. In the center there is a cluster of thumbnails that you can click on to go directly to a piece. Alternatively you can get to a piece by clicking on its name on the left. You can do this from any page on the site. At the top there is a brief description of me that appears on every page. The cluster of thumbnails was inspired by The Power of One. 

Here is an example of a portfolio piece page. The name of the current piece on the left becomes bold and darker. Left and right arrows allow you to move to the next piece or you can choose one from the list. Eventually if I put more pieces on the site there will be categories which will increase the one click policy to one or two clicks. There is also space for a short description of the piece on the bottom right.

About page. The short description from the top moves down and is elaborated upon. Right now it is filler text so I don't know how much type there will be. This is not the image I will be using and the overall layout of this page will likely change when I write the copy. The "site map" is also found on this page. It's really more of a web illustrating the fact that every page can access every other page with one click! 

This is the contact page. There's not much on there just my number, email and blog.
